About

We set up Outsider in early 2026 as we were struggling to find outdoor activities that we could do as a family that wouldn't cost the earth.

Aware of how there is not a great deal of outdoor/well-being/fitness-based provision for adults and kids to do together we decided to do something about it and provide the kind of thing that we were missing. Our ethos is about prioritising fun, play, being outside and a lack of competition. We want to help people in our community get together, build connections and feel a sense of belonging, and most of all we want to provide a space where everyone can get involved and have fun together. We are always looking for opportunities to collaborate with groups, businesses and individuals so please do get in touch with your ideas!

Our Mission

To provide opportunities for families and individuals to come together, have some fun, try something new and leave feeling better. We hope that our events will help our community to spend time outside, playing, socialising and getting physically and mentally fitter and more resilient. We are looking to provide a range of different events, on different days, times and seasons to showcase how versatile outdoor play is and the many free or low cost activities the outside world can provide.

Our Values

We prioritise play over structure, and collaboration over competition. We want our events to be inclusive and everyone to feel welcome. Our activities are designed to be family friendly, so you can bond with each other and make memories. We hope that our events inspire people to get out and play more, and discover a love of the outside world.

Who are we?

Ellie spent her childhood eating biscuits and dreaming of being on Gladiators. Moving to Cornwall as a teenager, she discovered a love of the outdoors, and hasn’t looked back, diving into a life of trail running and ocean-based adventures. Ellie has over ten years experience working as a teacher in secondary schools and we are both DBS checked and safeguarding trained.  She loves nothing better than escaping from reality into the outside world.

Robin spent his youth getting up to all sorts of mischief in the form of various action sports. He still enjoys a roll around on his skateboard, sending it downhill on a trail run and riding his bike up and down stuff that looks totally unrideable, he is also DBS checked and holds various teaching and learning quals. Both of us resolutely refuse to grow up.

Willow, Iris and Meadow are our support crew, cheer-squad and test panel for our crazy ideas. They each bring something different to the party, and often have more idea what’s going on than we do.  They have grown up as the outside world as their playground, and want to encourage as many people as possible to get out and play.
